SWMOBasketball takes a look at action in Alton.

ALTON, Mo. — Here, SWMOBasketball takes a look at several standouts from the Ozark Association AAU Basketball Championship held recently in Alton, Mo.

The event was held on Sunday, May 20 as Thayer and Alton’s school teams took on a couple of travel teams from southeast Missouri.

In the 17U/varsity division.

Ayden Stone, 6’5, F, 2019, Thayer

Stone showed that not only can he play with his back to the basket, but also can play away from the basket. It is obvious Ayden has been working on his ball handling skills, which, as he enters his senior season, should help his chances of playing at the next level.

Braden Hufstedler, 6’3, F, 2019, Thayer

Hufstedler showed his strength and quickness on both ends of the floor. Can play several positions on defense and on offense was able to get loose for several break away baskets.

Drew Clary, 6’1, G, 2020, Alton

Clary showed why he is considered one of the top combo guards in the area, as he was able to score from both the point and two guard positions. His ability to penetrate and finish at the rim, plus shoot the three from deep, makes him a tough match up for any defense.

Ely King, 5’11, G, 2020, Alton

King, another rising junior from Alton, was able to use his length and athleticism to not only get to the paint and score, but also help out on the boards. He is one of the players coaches love to have on the court.

In the 15U/JV division.

Jordan Andrews, 5’10, G, 2022, Thayer

Andrews from Thayer pretty much scored at will, from both three point range and in the paint. As he enters his freshman season and goes against more mature kids, will only get better.

Gage Pitts, 5’10, G, 2022, Thayer

Another outstanding player from Thayer entering his freshman season is point guard Gage Pitts. A typical coach’s son, he showed off both his ball handling and passing skills.  He can score when needed, but his biggest asset is his ability to find the open teammate.

Chanler Sisco, 6’3, F, 2022, Alton

Freshman to be Chanler Sisco from Alton is one of those kids all coaches dream about, long, athletic, who can pretty much do it all. Though he can handle the ball and can score from about anywhere on the court, his biggest asset may be his jumping ability.

— Special thanks to Tom Clary for this report.
