ONE-ON-ONE: Brandon Gordon (2019)

Nixa forward looking to have a breakout season.

Although he is flying under the radar, Nixa High School 2019 guard Brandon Gordon has high expectations after a strong summer competing for Program Select.

SWMOBasketball recently caught with Gordon and asked him about the upcoming season.

SWMO — How would you describe your game to people who haven’t seen you play?

Brandon — My game I would say is that I play a lot harder than a lot of people I know and I try my very best to give everything I got because I want the ball more than anyone else on the floor. When I’m in a game I usually tell myself that I’m better than the people on the floor. When I go to games and people have not seen me play yet I give it my all and want to show them who I am and how good of a ball player I am. I want to be not only a good ball player but one the greatest to play and I want people to see that.

SWMO — Tell us about your summer experience and how you grew as a player.

Brandon — Yes my summer experience went very well. I got better and I learned a lot over the summer playing on how to take care of the ball and shoot it better and handle it better. All the things I learned over the summer will be good help for me this season.

SWMO — Tell about the upcoming high school season, a little about your team and expectations.

Brandon — Our team has very good ball handlers, shooters, post guys, etc. The expectations I have for myself this season is to work on my defense and make it harder for my opponents to get around me and expectations I have for my team is for us to work out butts off and go out win a state championship.

SWMO — Who is the team or player that you look forward to playing this next season the most and why?

Brandon — I want to go against ozark because they are our biggest rival and I want to play them also because they have some really good players who have potential for the game later on after high school and Ozark will also help me become a better player.

SWMO — Who do you enjoy watching play basketball (professional, college, whoever) and why?
Have you been able to take anything they do well and implement it in your own game?

Brandon — Someone who inspires is Stephen Curry because he is such an outstanding shooter and that’s what everyone has told me I am and his shooting ability and watching him play makes me want to be that good at shooting the ball and handle the ball as well as he can.

SWMO — Who has been the biggest influence on your basketball career and tell us why?

Brandon — Someone close to me would be my mom because she pushes me to keep getting better and always at every single game to holler at me on the floor to pushing myself while I’m playing in the game. She is always cheering me on and she does whatever it takes for her to get me to realize that I have the potential to go pro or to be one the greatest ball players ever.

SWMO — What are some things in your game you are working on?

Brandon — Well there’s a few things that I am working on right now to improve my game. The things I am working on to improve my game are the following: my shooting, ball handling, and my defensive ability because those three things are will help me out the most and my team out the most and that’s the kind of player I want to be seen as is a defensive player who can stops, a deadly three point shooter who can’t be stopped from outside the three and a ball handler who can cross people or who make moves to get myself to the rim and score
